What is an Expert Advisor?

In case you are completely new to Forex trading, we'd like to clarify for you what is an Expert Advisor, what it's functionalities are and what are its ultimate objectives.

An Expert Advisor is a program that can be installed on the MetaTrader Platform and perform fully automated trading activities. Each EA is programmed with a specific trading strategy and will identify and execute for the user order entry points, order exit points, stop loss and take profit points, order size and manage risk with pre-programmed risk management functionalities.

When trading with an EA, the EA takes care of all of the trading execution automatically for the user, there is no need to become a forex expert or have a deep knowledge of trading to benefit. The user simply installs the EA and allows it to trade, the only decision to make is which EA is right for you and how much you want to invest.

The installation of an EA is very straight forward, and don't worry if you're not a computer or MT4 expert, each EA comes with simple to follow installation instructions so you can get to work with trading with your new forex trading software.


EAs are programmed in the code MQL4 and an environment provided my Metaquotes and allows any trading strategy, logic and risk management to be programmed in to the Expert Advisor to trade automatically on the MetaTrader 4 platform. It's important to note that MT4 is the only trading platform where Expert Advisors plug-ins can be installed and traded with, therefore it's important to choose a broker that supports trading on the MT4 platform .
